With SkyfireAI, Fremont, California, has launched the nation’s first joint Drone First Responder (DFR) program operated by both its Fire and Police Departments.

SkyfireAI played a key role in designing the program and securing regulatory approvals for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations. Fremont’s DFR program represents a forward-thinking model for integrating drone technology into public safety operations and could serve as a blueprint for other communities nationwide.

The team was credited with saving 13 lives through search and rescue missions and delivering critical medicines across North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Hardware agnostic, SkyFire’s AI tech enables public safety agencies to run autonomous drones and tactical drone swarms, slashing response times to just 2-4 minutes, versus common human response time of 7-30 minutes.

Dispatch received a domestic disturbance call. Our DFR drone was deployed and arrived on scene minutes before patrol units. Using its thermal imaging capabilities, the drone located the suspect, providing crucial intel to officers en route. Upon realizing police presence, the suspect fled into a wooded area. The drone maintained surveillance, transmitting real-time video and location data to ground and command units. The suspect was apprehended as they exited the woods.
